womanwaitingairport blog

A few months ago if you would have asked me how I felt about waiting I would have straight up told you that I ABSOLUTELY HATE IT! Ever since I could remember, I have always hated waiting on anyone or anything. Waiting is the last thing I wanted to do. Waiting in the lobby for a doctor’s appointment, waiting in the airport gate to get on the plane, waiting in line at the DMV, Waiting to get results if you passed a test or not… I could keep going, but you get my point.

However, recently God has been revealing to me  that when He makes us wait it is a blessing rather than a curse, which is what I had seen it as being all this time. I thought that waiting was a punishment. Like being grounded or being put in “time-out”. If we can recall our childhood years those times of waiting to get out of our punishment time  were miserable. But God is not punishing you for making you wait. On the contrary, if God is making you wait, trust me it is for your good. It is for your development. We may see ourselves as ready, but God knows  the truth and the truth is that you are not. A lot of times we think we are ready for something because we are in the stage of our lives where by society’s standards it should be happening. Career, marriage, home ownership, child bearing, parenting, etc.,etc. . We want things RIGHT NOW (microwave generation) , but a lot of times if we had everything that society thinks we should have by a certain age we would crash and burn from not being able to handle it.

Below I share some issues God may be working on you during your season of waiting.

Patience is a fruit of the spirit. If you want to grow spiritually, God will do so by putting you in situations that will test and develop you in that area in which you lack. If you lack in patience, God will make you wait until you feel peace about waiting for God to come through. It is very hard for me because I have always said out of all the fruits of the spirit Patience/Long Suffering was the one I struggled with the most. But God is faithful to help you grow in any area you are weak in.

The Holy Spirit produces a different kind of fruit: unconditional love, joy, peace, patience, kindheartedness, goodness, faithfulness – Galatians 5:22

God is making you wait so that he can fix your need to always be in control. For example, I am a planner by nature and love to have a plan going into things that I am not familiar with. I know that this helps for certain aspects of life, but it does not help my need to always want to be in control. Having the need to always want to be in control pushes God’s will behind mine. God is sovereign. As much as I may want to,  I can not make His will conform to mine. While I try to plan my life out, God is laughing at my plans and quietly chuckling at how I think I am running the show when I am clearly not. Wow… humbling. Very humbling.

We can make our own plans, but the LORD gives the right answer. – Proverbs 16:1

As  women, we are called to submission. Even if you are not married, you still have to submit to Christ  first and in order to submit you have to pleasantly let go of your will and allow your self to be led  by someone else. Waiting is a form of submission because you are saying “even though I would rather do it like this, I will wait because I know your plan is better than mine.” Submission and waiting is another form of humbling yourself. God truly admires those who humble themselves. God  is doing you a favor by making you wait because if you don’t learn how to submit and humble yourself to Him, you may never be able to submit  and humble yourself to your future spouse.

Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. – 1Peter 5:6

Surrendering your will to Christ and letting him take control is a lot easier said then done. It takes a lot of renewing of your mind to say that God’s will be done because if you are honest, you feel that you are giving up your desire and  that God will’s is not as good as yours. To put it simply, we do not trust God like we say we do. I had to stop myself and really think about the lie Satan was trying to tell me. How can God, who is perfect in every way, have a will for my life that is any less than perfect for me. Thinking that God’s plan for my life would be one lacking fulfillment is absolutely not true. Many times people who have lives that are not fulfilled are the ones who did not obey God and chose to not surrender. Giving up your will to allow God’s to take over is not giving up your desires because God put them there. It is merely saying that your way of doing it is not as good as His so you are being obedient and allowing Him to have complete control over it ALL.

Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. – Proverbs 3:5

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. – Jeremiah 29:11

I believe that God is preparing us. If you change your attitude you will begin to see that His grace and His mercy is keeping you and that is why you are waiting. He wants you to be mature and  be ready to withstand what comes with what it is your are seeking. He does not want to see you out lost and hurt because you were not yet truly ready. So do not see this time period of wait as punishment, but as a time to perfect your self so you lack nothing when your harvest time comes.

Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. – James 1:4
