As single Christian women, we are constantly reminded of the very famous verse Proverbs 18:22. I am sure many of us can recite it from memory, but I will just go ahead and quote it below for your viewing pleasure.
He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord.
I recently revisited this scripture during my quiet time and the Holy Spirit shed some light on the verse that I have read and heard over a hundred times. SIDE NOTE: It is so funny how we can see something over and over, but will have a real AH-HA moment down the line when our spirits are ready to receive it. Okay back to the topic.
Here are three things that I want to share with you to help you understand just how valuable you are to Christ and how he sees you.
1. He who finds a wife
Yes, I have to remind you and also myself that a man is supposed to find you not the other way around. So stop looking. Stop trying to make a guy believe that you are his wife. If you were he would not need you to help convince him. Instead use this time to start becoming the bride of Christ.
Jesus has already proposed his promise of unconditional love to you over 2,000 years ago and that “ring” we get to wear is eternal life. While you are single, your focus should be completely on God with out any distractions. The Bible says seek first the KINGDOM of God and everything else will be added to you (including your future spouse). I wrote in a previous blog about seeking the Kingdom of God first. Click here to read it.
2. A good thing
The word of God says that you are a good thing. Pause and let that SOAK in for a minute. The New Living Translation uses the word “treasure“. If a man does not see you as a good thing or his treasure, then, please sis, recognize that you deserve more. You deserve for a man to see you as his good thing and his treasure.
However, you should allow God to first make you a good thing. And by good thing, I mean a godly wife. If we are honest with ourselves, we know deep down that we are not ready to be a man’s good thing, and we have to let God transform us in order to be a man’s good thing. It takes more than looking cute and cooking and cleaning to be a good thing. We have so much more to offer and men know this. So please let’s allow God to work on us first!
Lastly, God says we are a source of favor for men. I don’t know about you, but if I were a godly man, I would be looking for favor any which way I could get it. So guess what that means? A godly man is looking for a godly woman who he can obtain his favor from the Lord. And if you are a godly woman then that godly man is looking for you. Yes! You, girl!
So now it all makes sense. Your future spouse is looking for you but first we have to let him find us and while we focus on Christ. We have to recognize our worth as a good thing and know we are the ones that will bring favor into his life like never before. Be patient! Trust God! Surrender your deadlines and desires to Him. God will not leave you disappointed. He will not leave you period!
